About 'Great Events'

Great Eventswww.greatevents.co.nz
is the website of Team Blanchfield Ltd, est. 1995.

The company, whose directors are Neil and Renata Blanchfield, specialise in project planning and event management.  Services undertaken can include budgeting for the event, and ongoing monitoring, registration and accommodation bookings, accreditation, meet and greet services, obtaining any permits required and staging events.  From licking stamps to greeting the PM - they’ll do it.

After successful careers in NZ government, Neil and Renata spent 12 years, (8 years as employees), working for the New Zealand Touch Assn Inc (now Touch New Zealand Inc).  During this time (early 1980’s to 1995) Touch flourished, to become the third largest adult participant sport in New Zealand.  The showcase feature each season was the National Championships which incorporated Open, Masters and Secondary Schools grades, gathering together up to 8,000 people competing in the championships over 10 days.  New Zealand hosted the 2nd Touch World Cup in 1991, and took 180 NZ representatives to the 3rd Touch World Cup in Hawaii, 1995.  Neil was awarded a life membership of Canterbury Touch, in recognition of his role in the establishment of the game in Canterbury and in establishing the Canterbury Touch Association.

The World Golden Oldies Rugby Festival called in 1995 which set the scene for many more great events to come.

Staying in the sporting administration scene, Renata took on the role of PA to Steve Tew, CEO at the Canterbury Rugby Union from 1996 to 2000 - a very successful period in Canterbury Rugby history. Renata returned to work on "Great Events" through the 2000's.

Neil has been involved in the Marist, and more recently Marist Albion Rugby club for 35 years, including 8 years as President, and is now a life member.  Neil was a Canterbury Union executive member for 10 years, serving on the Rugby World Cup committee in 1987, the coaching, programmes, and entertainment committees.

Neil and Renata love their sport, both administratively and as participants; which sees them both taking part in mountain biking, and marathon running for Renata, while Neil is the perfect supporter. Renata has run in 15 marathons including Paris, madrid, Hawaii, Rome and Invercargill.
